横浜カントリークラブは、東コース、西コースからなる、36ホールのメンバー制プライベート・ゴルフ場です。
1978年、2018年に開催された日本オープンゴルフ選手権競技をはじめ、日本ゴルフ協会(JGA)・関東ゴルフ連盟(KGA)の公式競技が多数開催されています。
相山 武夫氏と竹村 秀夫氏がコースの原設計を手掛け、自然の地形を生かした戦略設計型の36ホールです。また、クラブハウス設計は日本近代建築の大家・谷口 吉郎氏が担当。近代的な建築ながら伝統も感じられる趣は、プレーへの期待感を増長させてくれます。
東コースは、2000年から2010年にかけて、設計家の佐藤 謙太郎氏の手によって大幅な改修が加えられ、1グリーン化、平坦化が施されました。これにより、大胆なバンカーのレイアウトやアンジュレーションのきついグリーンなど、さらに戦略性を増しています。
一方の西コースは、数々の公式トーナメントが開催された伝統あるコースで、名勝負が繰り広げられた舞台となっています。フェアウェイは広くゆったりしていますが、緩やかな起伏と変化に富んだレイアウトは、ゴルファーを戦略的に楽しませてくれること間違いなし。中でも14番の池越え、打ち下しのPAR3はプロも苦戦するホールなので、是非プレーしてみてください。
2015年からは世界的に著名なゴルフ設計事務所クーア&クレンショーの手により、西コースおよび東コースの一部において新設コース並みの大改修が施されました。従来の東コース・西コースに加え、新たにトーナメント専用の「東西コンポジットルーティング」が設計されています。
また、西コースは2017年に「Top100 Golf Courses of the World」にて92位にランクイン。横浜カントリークラブは同年に日本からランクインした4コースのうちの１つであり、コースのレベルの高さを伺い知れます。
